39. Powderhorn Lake and Prairie


Powderhorn Lake and Prairie, 138th Street and Brainerd Avenue: 

48 acre lake, 130 acre prairie and marsh

The only state-dedicated nature preserves within the Chicago city limits, and home to 250 plant species, including the prickly pear cactus, plus 2,500 insect species, and 40-100 bird species.
